Further Education - National Adult Literacy Agency

The National Literacy Agency (NALA), with support from the Health and Safety Authority and FAS, has produced a series of learning resources for participants on ‘Skills for Work’ courses. These aim to improve literacy and develop English language skills using health and safety terminology.

‘Steps to Safety’ caters for participants with English language needs and those with very low literacy skills. It is aimed at FETAC Level 1 and may be used as a pre-intervention resource for the main workbook ‘Safe and Well’.

‘Safe and Well’ is a resource for FETAC Level 2. Both books cover the following basic content:

  • Safety signs and symbols
  • Managing information at Work
  • Health and Hygiene
  • Working Safely
  • Accident Report forms

‘Clocking in to Clocking Out’ will be third publication in the series and will be aimed at FETAC Level 3.  This learning resource will contain five mini-workbooks to develop students’ communications, analytical and problem solving skills.
