Major Health and Safety Award for Irish Companies
20th December
ADC Barcode and Wyeth Biotech have been awarded with Good Practice Awards for initiatives in safety and health. Representatives of both companies were at the headquarters of the Health and Safety Authority to be presented with their awards by Mary Dorgan, Assistant Chief Executive Prevention Services with the Health and Safety Authority. According to Dorgan “the quality of entries to this years awards was of a very high standard and both ADC Barcode and Wyeth Biotech have demonstrated a high level of commitment to the safety and health of their employees.”
The annual Good Practice Awards aim to demonstrate the benefits of good safety and health practice in the same theme as the European Week of Safety and Health at Work. This year the theme focused on Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) particularly around the prevention of such injuries and the retention, rehabilitation and reintegration of injured workers. MSDs are the most common work-related problem in Europe.
ADC Barcode is an Irish owned technology company formed in 1988 involved in the supply of barcode scanning, demand label printing, custom software and the manufacture of consumables. Wyeth Biotech is a new biopharmaceutical campus with over 1,200 full-time employees. Wyeth has four other facilities in Ireland with over 3,300 employees.
Both organisations developed and implemented innovative systems which approached the issue of MSDs with a preventative goal in mind.
“This years winners have successfully implemented initiatives and have shown tangible improvements in workplace safety and health”, said Mary Dorgan. “They are justified winners of the 2007 Good Practice Awards and I congratulate them on their proactive and committed approach to the safety and health of their employees.”
