Health and Safety Authority announces national conference for safety representatives
Tuesday 7th October
The Health and Safety Authority today (Tuesday 7th October) announced details of a major national conference for safety representatives to take place in the Croke Park Conference Centre on November 4th next. The conference is designed specifically for the safety representative community and will feature a range of expert speakers on key health and safety topics.
According to Gavin Lonergan, Head of Communications with the Health and Safety Authority, "It is important that safety representatives across the country get a chance to come together to exchange ideas and experiences. This conference will provide an important forum for safety representatives to learn from each other and to hear from a wide range of expert speakers."
Topics to be covered at the conference include HSA plans and priorities for 2009, SIPTU safety and health policy, recognising and addressing work related bullying issues, a practical overview of the new machinery directive and a risk assessment approach to manual handling. As well as a variety of speakers from the Health and Safety Authority and employee organisations, there will also be representatives from the health and safety division of the European Trade Union Institute and industry speakers from Janssen Pharmaceuticals, McInerney Homes and Pilz Ireland. The conference will also feature a keynote address from the Minister for Labour Affairs, Mr. Billy Kelleher TD.
An important aspect of the conference will be the exhibition zone where delegates will have the chance to meet representatives from stakeholder organisations such as IOSH, NISO, Construction Industry Federation and employee representatives from SIPTU and Congress. According to Lonergan, "If you are a safety representative working in any industry sector, public or private, this is a key event for you to attend. Don't miss what promises to be a very useful and informative day."
