Manual Handling Case Study Video Series 2
The case scenarios included in the clips are intended as an aid to managers when carrying out manual handling task assessments. The scenarios and controls selected outline one example of a particular handling task but cannot take into account all the possible circumstances in a workplace. The assessor should select a control that best addresses the need in their particular circumstance.
When carrying out a patient/client handling risk assessment additional factors such as the persons medical needs, personal and cultural factors should also be taken into account. The handling procedure selected should be explained to the patient/client and where possible the patients consent is sought.
As a patient/clients medical condition can change rapidly a personal or dynamic risk assessment should also be carried out by the carer prior to attempting any handling procedure.
With all the scenarios it is important to evaluate the controls selected to ensure they have effectively reduced the risk.
