Examples

The following are examples of some restrictions that have been adopted in recent times.

• Cadmium in jewellery, plastics and brazing tools. (PDF 101KB)

• Dichloromethane (DCM) in paint strippers (PDF 54.3KB)
• Grill lighter fluids and lamp oils (PDF 52.2KB)
• Organotin compounds (PDF 81.7 KB)
• Methylenediphenyl diisocyanate (MDI) in consumer products
• Cyclohexane in neoprene adhesives for sale to general public
• 2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethanol (DEGME) in paints and paint strippers
• 2-(2-butoxyethoxy)ethanol (DEGBE) in paints for spray application
• Ammonium Nitrate (AN) in non-EU fertilisers
• Mercury-containing medical devices
• PAHs in extender oils in tyres
• Phthalates in children’s toys
• Lead Paint
• Use of Nickel in piercing assemblies (e.g. jewellery, close fastenings etc)
• Nonylphenol and Nonylphenol ethoxylate (detergent used in industrial cleaning and other manufacturing processes)
• Cement (Chromium VI content must be kept below a prescribed limit)
• Azocolourants (Used as dyes)
• Pentabrominodiphenyl Ether (Used in aircraft emergency evacuation systems)
• Carcinogenic, Mutagenic and reproductive toxicity (CMR) substances (Used in chemical and pharmachemical industries).

Deleted Restrictions

The following restriction entries have been deleted from Annex XVII to REACH, due to the inclusion of diphenyl, pentabromo derivative and PFOS in Annex I to Regulation (EC) No. 850/2004 regarding persistent organic pollutants:

• Entry 44: Diphenylether, pentabromo derivative
• Entry 53: Perfluorooctane sulfonates (PFOS)
