BeSMART.ie for Construction Construction contractors can now enjoy the benefits of BeSMART.ie, the Health and Safety Authority’s FREE online safety management and risk assessment tool.
BeSMART.ie will help you develop a site-specific safety statement including risk assessment for your business or if you are appointed a Project Supervisor Construction Stage (PSCS) you also have the option to download a Construction Stage Safety And Health Plan template including risk assessment which can be developed to suit your job. These documents also contain useful information including registers, templates and method statements. It is a confidential service that will save you time and money and will help you identify measures to protect you and your workers and reduce the chances of an accident on site.
Construction Business Types available on BeSMART.ie This list of construction business types will be added to over time as we continue to expand BeSMART.ie. The most up to date list can be checked by clicking on the link below which will also bring you to the BeSMART.ie website.
Generate a Free Site-Specific Safety Statement including Risk Assessments Part A of the Safety Statement includes your policy document, safety arrangements and site-specific information which will help in managing day-to-day safety requirements on site. The following is a sample of the templates available in the Safety Statement;
Method Statement Template Registers e.g. Induction, PPE, Training Accident Investigation Forms
Part B of the Safety Statement will include your completed risk assessments which you will develop using BeSMART.ie
On completion of the risk assessment section, users will then be able to download their Safety Statement in either RTF (Rich Text Format) or PDF. We recommend using the RTF option as you can edit this version
Develop a Construction Stage Safety and Health Plan Using BeSMART.ie The Project Supervisor Construction Stage must develop a suitable Safety and Health Plan for the project, prior to the commencement of construction work. The plan provides the blueprint for managing and co-ordinating safety and health during construction. The plan needs to explain how the key safety and health issues will be managed. It must be relevant to the particular project and should be built on the Safety and Health Plan prepared on a preliminary basis by the Project Supervisor Design Process.
How to Develop a Plan You can now develop a Construction Stage Safety and Health Plan using the template which is available for download when you complete a risk assessment for your construction business type using BeSMART.ie
Register for a confidential account on BeSMART.ie or access as a Guest User (your risk assessments will not be saved) Pick your construction business type Work through the hazard assessments and when complete you will arrive at the management screen Note: If you have already completed a risk assessment for a construction business type the option to download a construction stage safety and health plan will appear automatically in your My BeSMART Management Screen
Management Screen When you get to the management screen you will be now given the following four options;
1. Download your safety statement including risk assessments and action list or;
2. Manage Your Action List
3. Browse Hazards;
4. Construction Stage Plan - download and develop a Construction Stage Plan Template with your risk assessments and action list.;

The construction stage safety and health plan, the plan will then be downloaded in RTF (Rich Text Format) and can be saved as a Word or Pages document for future development and editing.

Risk Assessments To complete your risk assessments in BeSMART.ie all you need to do is;
Select your business type Work through the hazards appropriate to your business type Consult with your employees Complete and download On completion you will be brought to your management screen where you can download and edit your safety statement and completed risk assessments Registered users can come back and edit their risk assessments at any time
Users can now:
Edit risk assessments See when risk assessments have been updated with any changes in their My BeSMART page Rename risk assessments Add in an extra control or further information in relation to a hazard Print out individual hazard assessments to use as checklists Work on and edit multiple risk assessments Access the entire BeSMART.ie hazard database on completing a risk assessment Select any additional hazards they may have in their workplace, risk assess them, then print and include in their safety statement Learn More A comprehensive suite of relevant construction guidance, codes of practice, tool box talks, statutory forms and templates is available in the ‘Learn More’ section on BeSMART.ie and can be accessed by clicking the link below.
