The HSA bring the Keep Safe Roadshow to Bray school children
Tuesday 26th November
More than 100 children from St Peter’s Primary School, Ravenswell Primary School, and Bray School Project NS, have today (Tuesday, 26th November) attended a Health and Safety Authority 'Keep Safe' event at Ballywaltrim Community Centre, Boghall Road, Bray, County Wicklow.
A range of state agencies and regional organisations with a safety remit came together to deliver an interactive safety programme directed at fifth and sixth class pupils. The ‘Keep Safe' programme aims to promote safety and community awareness through involving the children in a series of fun and interactive scenarios with a strong safety theme.
The aims of the one day 'Keep Safe' event are to help children to:
- become aware of personal and home safety,
- learn how to react to dangerous situations,
- foster good citizenship,
- learn how to recognise hazards and manage risks, and
- learn how to stay safe within the context of, for example, road safety, water safety, farm safety and fire safety.
Dr. Joan Cahill, Assistant Principal with the Health and Safety Authority said,
“The Keep Safe initiative teaches children about a variety of safety hazards and situations including safety around electricity, farm safety and water safety. All the activities are designed to be fun, interactive and informative. I would like to thank everyone who attended and participated in the event today. The enthusiasm of the pupils, their teachers and the different agencies involved make this a really worthwhile event.”
The agencies and organisations that were represented today include Junior Achievement Ireland, An Garda Síochána, Bus Éireann, ESB Networks, Health and Safety Authority, National Ambulance Service, Teagasc, Bray Fire Service, Glen of Imaal Wicklow Mountain Rescue and Construction Federation Industry (CIF).
