Healthcare Illness and Injury Statistics
In 2021, the Healthcare and Social Work Sector reported 1860 injuries to the Health and Safety Authority. This accounted for over 20% of all workplace injuries reported to the Authority.
Reported incidents indicate three main accident triggers in the healthcare sector:
- manual handling (patient handling and handling of inanimate loads)
- slips, trips and falls
- work related aggression, shock and violence
The latest data from the CSO’s Labour Force Survey also indicate that illness rates are also highest in this sector.
