Safety and Health In-service Training

The Education Unit of the Health and Safety Authority has developed a series of in-service courses and a suite of
e-learning courses aimed at increasing awareness of safety, health and welfare matters among teachers.  The courses are designed to meet the needs of teachers with a broad interest in safety and health as well as those teachers (including principals) with additional functions in this area.

These courses explore the core principles of safety and health for teachers as employees within the school and as part of the management team.

The professional development courses are of particular interest to:

  • teachers (including principals) with specific management duties to relating health and safety
  • safety representatives
  • members of school safety committees
  • teachers who are members of the school’s board of management
  • teachers interested in safety links to the curriculum
  • teachers with a general interest in health and safety matters

It focuses on the following aspects of occupational health and safety:

  • Health and Safety legislation and key concepts
  • Employer and employee responsibilities
  • Principles of a safety and health management system
  • Risk assessments
  • Emergency planning
  • Accident reports
  • Safety Statements

Health and safety courses are run on a regular basis for teachers through the Education Centres. Please contact your local Education Centre for more details.
