Healthy, Safe and Productive Lives
The Authority achieved a challenging and broad programme of work in 2014. Across the areas of workplace health and safety and chemicals regulation, we continued our approach of supporting Irish enterprise, primarily through the provision of
information and advice, and through enforcement where necessary.
Analysis is based on the data from annual modules on Work-Related Accidents and Illness that are collected by the Central Statistics Office (CSO) as part of the Quarterly National Household Survey (QNHS) and on data collected by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) on fatal and non-fatal injuries based on employers’ reports.
This is the third programme of work prepared by the Health and Safety Authority under its strategy for 2013 to 2015. The programme for 2015 has a significant level of continuity with previous years as we build on the groundwork and achievements of earlier programmes.
The Authority demonstrated a high level of achievement in 2013 against a challenging and broad programme of work but with a reduced level of resources. The Authority met its key targets and exceeded a number of them.
The tables and graphs contained in this publication outline statistics on occupational injury, illness and workplace fatalities in Ireland.
This is the second Programme of Work prepared as part of our strategy for the period 2013 to 2015. Our vision is a country where worker safety, health and welfare and the safe management of chemicals are central to successful enterprise. This Programme of Work is designed to move us closer to achieving our vision.

The Health and Safety Authority’s annual Summary of Statistics presents the most frequently sought information and statistics on occupational injury, illness and workplace fatalities in Ireland. Data from different sources is brought together so that readers can review and monitor trends across a range of factors related to workplace injury and illness, including the characteristics of the victim, the incident and the work environment.
