Notification of substances in articles

There is a duty on importers and producers of articles to notify ECHA if substances listed on the Candidate list are present in their articles, if both of the following conditions are met:

  1. The substance is present in the article in a quantity of over one tonne per year
  2. The substance is present in the article above a concentration of 0.1% w/w.

This duty applies no later than six months after the inclusion of the substance in the Candidate list.

There are two possibilities to submit a notification: via the web-form on ECHA’s website or via REACH-IT. Companies are advised that if they wish to claim some of the information as confidential, then they should use REACH IT, as non-confidential data on candidate list substances in articles which are available for consumer use on the EU market is published on the ECHA website.

For further details on how to submit a notification, including the relevant data manual see ECHA’s website.
