Transport Company Fined for Safety Breach

A Fine of €20,000 was imposed on Iggy Madden Transport Limited by Judge Rory McCabe today (Friday 23rd January) in Galway Circuit Court.
The company, Iggy Madden Transport Limited, pleaded guilty to a breach of Regulation 95(1)(a) of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work(General Application)Regulations 2007 contrary to Section 77(2)(c) of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, in that they failed as an employer to ensure that work at height was appropriately supervised.
The Health and Safety Authority’s investigation arose from an accident in relation to a fall from height.
Speaking about the dangers of working at height Brian Higgisson, Assistant Chief Executive of the Health and Safety Authority said, "Working at height is hazardous, particularly if the appropriate steps have not been taken to minimise risk. Employers are required to ensure that work at height is planned, organised and supervised with safety in mind.”
