Warning to the Construction Industry re: Generators and Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
It has come to the attention of the Health and Safety Authority that workers on construction sites may still be unaware of the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning from generators used in unventilated areas.
It is important that employers remind their employees of the dangers of using generators in enclosed areas. Generators should be used outdoors and must never be used indoors unless specific provision has been made for conducting the exhaust gases from the engine into the open air, or the working area is adequately ventilated so as to prevent danger to health from the exhaust gases.
The Health and Safety Authority has produced an information sheet on the dangers of Carbon Monoxide poisoning. This information sheet and all Health and Safety Authority publications are available for free download from www.hsa.ie
