Code of Practice Safe Use of Industrial Trucks - Webinar for Employers

The Health and Safety Authority has published a new Code of Practice entitled Code of Practice: Safe Use of Industrial Trucks. This Code of Practice came into operation on 24 September 2025. From that date, it replaces the 2001 Code of Practice Rider-operated lift trucks: operator training.

The new Code of Practice provides practical guidance on complying with the provisions of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 with regards to the use of industrial trucks in workplaces. It provides a framework for managing the risks associated with industrial trucks. It sets out the basic roles and responsibilities of those who have duties for ensuring the safe operation of industrial trucks and the training of industrial truck operators.

The aim of this webinar is to inform employers, supervisors, managersand those in control of places of work where rider operated industrial trucks are used of the principles laid down for the safe use of industrial trucks. It will be delivered by senior Inspectors from the Transport and Storage Unit of the HSA.

The Road Safety Authority (RSA), Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and An Garda Síochána will host a Driving for Work seminar on Wednesday, 26 November at 10am in The Johnstown Estate, Enfield. Co. Meath, A83 V070.

Employers, managers and supervisors must, by law, manage the risks that employees face and create when they drive for work.

The seminar will be of particular interest and benefit to employers, self-employed, transport, safety and fleet managers who operate heavy commercial vehicles (trucks) in all work sectors and specifically those involved in routine transport of foods, goods, plant and machinery, equipment and materials.

Delegates on the day will hear from speakers from the following organisations:
