Health and Social Care Illness and Injury Statistics
In 2022, the health and social care sector reported 2,051 cases of injuries sustained by workers. This accounted for 23% of all workplace injuries reported to the Health and Safety Authority.
Reported incidents indicate three main accident triggers in the healthcare sector:
- manual handling (patient handling and handling of inanimate loads)
- slips, trips and falls
- work related aggression, shock and violence
The latest data from the CSO’s Labour Force Survey also indicate that illness rates are also highest in this sector.
