Quarry Safety Week 2021

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and the Irish Concrete Federation (ICF) are jointly supporting Quarry Safety Week 2021.

This year’s theme: “Vehicles and Pedestrian Safety”.

A Pre-Campaign Briefing for the Sector was given on the 23rd February 2021.

The following Toolbox Talks took place as part of this initiative and were given to Quarry Managers on the following dates.

Quarry Safety Week 2019

The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) and the Irish Concrete Federation (ICF) are jointly supporting Quarry Safety Week 2019, which will take place from Monday 9th – Friday 13th September 2019.null

The objective of Quarry Safety Week 2019 is to highlight the key hazards which exist on a daily basis in operating quarries and some of the practices and proactive measures which can reduce the risk of accidents and injury to staff.

In order to support Quarry Safety Week 2019, the HSA will be conducting inspections on Vehicle and Pedestrian Safety throughout the week. Dr Sharon McGuinness, Chief Executive Officer of the HSA, urged employers to lead the way in delivering safer workplaces. 

In order to support Quarry Safety Week 2017, HSA Inspectors will be conducting an intensive round of nationwide safety inspections throughout the week.

ICF members will also be undertaking safety initiatives to highlight the importance of quarry safety in their locations.

QUARRY SAFETY WEEK 2016

The Health and Safety Authority and the Irish Concrete Federation jointly supported Quarry Safety Week 2016

This took place Monday 24th - Friday 28th of October 2016 and ran concurrently with the European Week  for Safety and Health at Work ... Organised by EU-OSHA.

The ICF's Health and Safety Committee prepared Safety Bulletins on 5 areas:

  1. Isolation and Lock Out
  2. Mobile Plant
  3. Quarry Faces
  4. Conveyor Guarding
  5. Daily Walk Around Check - Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGV)
