Risk Description:
Two catastrophic Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapour Explosion (BLEVE) incidents have occurred involving Diferro machines. Evidence suggests that in both cases the machines had been left unattended and connected to the electrical power supply and that uncontrolled heating of the oil-filled drum has occurred. The built-in temperature control system has failed to operate to prevent overheating and over-pressurisation of the sealed drum (roller).
Corrective Action:
Owners:
- Cease operating these machines immediately. Contact the manufacturer to ascertain what actions are required to ensure the safe operation of the machine.
- Users should contact their local authority fire service to advise them of the presence of these machines in their premises, and make them aware of this Safety Alert.
