Non-Domestic Gas Works - Registration Requirements
The Health and Safety Authority has been informed of the introduction of a new registration scheme for non-domestic gas works. The scheme is being implemented by the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) and the Register of Gas Installers of Ireland (RGI).
The Authority's Key Message:
- From 1 September 2026, any person carrying out gas works in non-domestic premises must be registered with the RGI in accordance with the requirements of the scheme
- Any individual, company, contractor, or organisation that undertakes, manages, arranges, or contracts for gas works to be carried out on a gas installation or gas appliance in a non-domestic premises must ensure that the work is undertaken by appropriately registered persons
- An RGI must issue a Completion Certificate to the duty holder for all gas works carried out for which they are responsible
Note:
The Registration Process For Non Domestic Gas Works Is In Addition To The Existing RGI Scheme For Domestic Gas Works.
- The Authority will consider the appropriate enforcement action on duty holders where it has been determined that gas works are being undertaken by individuals that are not appropriately registered
Ensuring that gas works are undertaken by appropriately registered persons is an important measure in protecting the safety of workers, building occupants, and members of the public.
The Authority encourages all duty holders, employers, contractors, and those responsible for non-domestic premises to familiarise themselves with the requirements of the new scheme and to take the necessary steps to ensure compliance.
For further information on the registration requirements and Registration Process, please refer to the guidance issued by the CRU and the RGI.
