The Health and Safety Authority (HSA) has updated the Guidelines on Hearing Checks and Audiometry in the Workplace, as required by The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007 (S.I. No. 299/2007), Chapter 1 of Part 5: Control of Noise at Work.
Some key updates in the revised guidelines include updated references to ISO standards, most notably the replacement of ISO 6189:1983 with ISO 8253-1:2010. The document also features expanded sections on the health risks associated with noise exposure, including information on the interactions between noise and ototoxic substances and noise and vibration. In addition, the document highlighting the importance of daily equipment checks, controlling environmental noise, and calibration intervals.
