Safety Alert for STIHL Chainsaws

The Health and Safety Authority have been made aware of a Rapex Safety Alert issued by the manufacturer of STIHL chainsaws in respect to Model No.s  MS 462 and MS 391.

The Authority wish to bring this safety alert and relevant information to the attention of owners and users of these chainsaws as well as maintenance and inspection personnel. 

Operators should stop using these chainsaws immediately as per advice from the manufacturer outlined below. 

Description:  STIHL Chainsaw Model No:  MS 462 and MS 391

Risk: When installing a lever in the chainsaw, there are discrepancies that can have an influence on the triggering sensitivity of the automatic chain brake. This may lead to risk of injuries in the event of a kickback.

Machine MS 462 number range 1: 191006514  – 191006995 Machine MS 462 number range 2: 191027366  – 191027434

Machine MS 391 number range:    190993963  – 190994982 

If you own an MS 462 or an MS 391 chainsaw within the above machine number range, STIHL ask you to stop using the machine immediately.

Please contact your STIHL dealer about replacing the lever. This repair is free of charge for you.
