What is it used for?
Typically used for hauling larger bulk dig excavation materials i.e. soil, sand, stone etc.
Training
Solas SAFEPASS & CSCS for an Articulated Dump Truck to be on file for the operator.
Inspections
Weekly inspection to be carried out and documented on a GA2 for the machine by a competent person.
Certificate of thorough examination (GA1) to be on file for the item of machinery.
Paperwork
Written risk assessment to be on file and the operator to be signed onto it.
Additional Safety Features
Reversing & Auxiliary Aids to be in place i.e. mirrors, reversing camera, orange/green beacons, reversing siren (these will be in place after conducting the risk assessment).
Safety Points to Ponder
- Operator to be wearing the seat belt correctly when machine is operating
- Ensure a safe route is identified for safe use to avoid overturning of articulated dump truck
- Ensure load does not exceed the manufacturers rated capacity
- Carry out weekly inspections as a minimum
- Report any known defects to site management
- Never carry passengers without an approved passenger seat fitted with seatbelt
